Delivery Events

Detailed reports can be downloaded from the Enterprise panel about 2 hours after a campaign runs. For real-time updates, Gupshup pushes events to your webhook.

Bounces

A bounce is an email rejected by the receiving mail server.

Soft bounce — a temporary rejection, for example:

  • The recipient's mailbox is full
  • The mail server is temporarily unavailable
  • The recipient closed their account while the email was being sent

Hard bounce — a permanent rejection, for example:

  • Invalid address (typo, or the domain does not exist)
  • The address does not exist
  • The recipient's server has blocked the sending server
🚧

Soft bounces can become hard bounces

If an address soft-bounces and three successive campaigns are undelivered to it, it is marked as a hard bounce.

Deferrals

A deferral means the receiving server is temporarily limiting access or busy — common causes are too many spam complaints on mail you've already sent, or technical issues at the inbox provider. It does not mean the email won't be delivered, only that delivery is delayed.

Gupshup retries deferred emails for up to 72 hours. If the email is accepted in that window you receive a delivery event; if it is still deferred after 72 hours, it becomes a block.
